… hurry up and wait

I

t’s been a few years since I last rattled around south eastern Europe and I’d forgotten how long it can take to get just about anywhere. Today’s stats: on the road for 13 hours… actual movement – 6 hours… waiting – 7 hours.

I left Thessaloniki this morning and am now in Kerkyra, the main town of the island of Corfu. I’m hiding-out here until Monday morning when I sail for Venice.. a 25 hour trip. The plan now is to spend a bit of Tuesday in Venice and then get to Trieste where I fly on Wednesday morning… assuming the volcano cloud clears enough for my plane to go through Germany and then across the Atlantic.

The original routing was through Albania and then up the Dalmatian coast but that would have meant spending virtually every day on the road in a bus. Next time.
